Ukraine – Massive Russian missile attack (Dec. 29, 2022)

France utterly condemns today’s massive Russian missile attack against multiple regions of Ukraine. This attack once again deliberately targeted energy infrastructures, damaged homes and caused electricity and water cuts, as well as interruptions in transportation. Several civilians were injured.

Such cynical, systematic targeting in the middle of winter underscores Russia’s determination to strike at the civilian population and break the Ukrainian people’s resistance.

As Minister Catherine Colonna emphasized this morning, these unacceptable acts are war crimes. They cannot go unpunished. France will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainian courts and the International Criminal Court to combat impunity for these crimes. We will continue to provide both military and civilian support to shore up Ukraine’s resilience.

Kosovo – Removal of roadblocks (Dec. 29, 2022)

We welcome the announcement that roadblocks in northern Kosovo will quickly be dismantled and we commend EU and U.S. efforts to achieve this result.

We call on Serbian and Kosovan authorities to continue working constructively to ease tensions on the ground and to move toward an agreement to normalize relations through the EU-brokered dialogue.

All commitments made as a result of this dialogue must be implemented.
